Karu Haruchodhu - Mantra Collection (English)

As a rare treasure of the oral heritage of the Badaga tradition, the Karuharuchodu mantras have been preserved from generation to generation and are generally regarded as mantras recited during funeral rites. However, these mantras are not meant exclusively for the deceased. They represent a profound tradition that conveys meaningful lessons on life and moral values for the living as well. Many of the ideas expressed in these mantras have deep connections with India’s traditional literature, including the Vedas, Upanishads, Garuda Purana, Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, Thirukkural, Aathichudi, and the Dharmashastras.

Through these mantras, the spiritual thought of our ancestors and their profound understanding of the universe and the principles of life are revealed. In order to make this valuable heritage known to future generations, a comprehensive book titled “Karu Haruchodu – The Gita of the Badagas” has been compiled and published in both Tamil and English.
